More then kicking and Punching

You may not know but there is far more benefits then kicking and punching at FiveStar Martial Arts School. Apart from Taekwondo World Federation Style and Gracie Jiu Jitsu, not to forget the Master Eaxminer 7th Degree Blackbelt and holder of several Blackbelts.

It is the innate things that you don't realise you that pick up along the way.

These are the important physical and mental and emotional benefits that are derived from FiveStar Martial Arts.

Master Rob calls upon his life skills as; a Father, a Carer, a Partner, a Manager, an Emergency Response Person, a Friend, a Master Instructor, a Student, an Australian Sports Coach/Manager/Head of Team, an Olympic Selector, a Researcher, an Examiner, a Mentor, a University Graduate (DipAppSC) and many academic qualifications to impart these benefits upon the the students.

Yes you get far more then kicking and punching...

Once Upon a Time Simple Karate was enough.

Many years ago Karate and Taekwondo was enough, some did boxing too. However with the every ready internet to provide information for fighting and disabling techniques (taught right or incorrectly) you have to know more.

Thats right Taekowndo and Karate is not enough. IF your teacher is not teaching you to take down the attacker, to control and restrain the attacker, to hold them on the ground effectively and efficiently then your in the wrong school for self defence.

For several years now we have been teaching MMA and Gracie Jiu Jitsu to complement our Taekwondo. And I consider our Taekwondo to be one of the most contemporary and effective not left and the dark ages without advancement....

Gracie Jiu Jitsu is the most effective form of self defence that you can get your hands on and we have it here taught to us by the founders sons, grandsons and their blackbelts.

It is ok to disbelieve but it is not ok to blindly follow your teacher and have he or she say that you don't need it! But you do, now more then ever your need it.

When your kick or punch misses and it will, what will you do???

Call us to find out exactly what it is you can do either through BULLYSTOP® or or Programming that works.

I hit this guy square in the head with a roundhouse kick, yes it was in competition but it was square in the head. It did not knock him out and if he knew Gracie Jiu Jitsu and I didn't and he then followed up to take me down what would you do.... I will tell you that you will freak out.

Don't leave it to chance take lesson in Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo  :)

Why do you need a Properly qualified Blackbelt Instructor in Taekwondo in particular?

Why do you need a Properly qualified Blackbelt Instructor in Taekwondo in particular?
A 1st Degree Blackbelt cannot Legitimately Promote Taekwondo Students !!!!

In a age of technology and with people are wanting everything now and not delaying gratification for any length of time what does one do?

We are seeing more and more supposed Martial Arts Schools open up almost monthly with quite exquisite names... claiming to be this or that even.  Where do they come what are their lineage? Are they even qualified to teach? Why have they broken away from their instructor or were they kicked for improper behaviour?

Did they excel when they were students or scrap by with satisfactory results?

A 1st degree Blackbelt in Taekwondo can be achieved in only 2-3 yrs these people are really only advanced students.

Did they train twice a week or did they train everyday and commit themselves to the art? Have they tested themselves in an arena of competition? Mostly not...

Probably not and no more then likely only a couple classes of week training.

They have been made blackbelts because it is the next step, not because they are instructors and not even close to being examiners neither.

An Instructor in Taekwondo is when they are 4th degree Blackbelt according the the World Taekwondo Federation, not 1st Degree or 1st Dan. Until then they can be known as advance student or maybe assistant instructor... 5th Degree is Master Instructor, 8th Degree is GrandMaster. GGM 9th Degree

A 1st degree Blackbelt has NO GRADING privileges i.e. they cannot under any circumstances sign certificates to validate any colour belt grading/ promotion test.

An legitimate Instructor or Master Instructor of a Taekwondo school in particular will not accept your ranking given by one of these people when their school finally closes and you seek out other options.

Get the accredited Instructor NOT a student Teacher in the first place.

Competing Victoria

A style is a style because Grandmaster/Founder sought out the best in their country and formulated a system usually prior to the 1950's. When it is broken down and mishmashed together you have nothing but mishmash. You want Taekwondo then learn Taekwondo, not a exquisite name on some certificate.

You can buy a certificate but you cannot buy experience, or proper accreditation. When the younger student is doing things better then the teacher in no time flat alarm bells should ring

$6.5 million BullyStop®

Why do instructors believe BullyStop is worth $6.5m?
 Olivia Cooley and Royce Gracie

Master Jodi Brown recently wrote that our BullyStop® Program was worth $6.5m to the kids that attended her class in Victoria.

She says well what it the value a child being made safer, having confidence, being able to say NO, being able to ask questions, and being able to use simple real life self defence the Gracie way to save themselves or others?

You know all these things culminate into a well adjusted child that can go to school and learn and not be bullied.

So i ask you what is the value of a child that becomes a person of influence and change in society to the child that seldom ventures out of their comfort zone?

For it is those ones that venture out and create value that become successful in so many ways.

We believe the difference could equate to $6.5million, thats only part of the value we put on our BullyStop® program

said of Master Robert Cooley 7th Dan

"I highly recommend training Gracie Jiu Jitsu with my student Robert Cooley to anyone who is in the Wollongong /Illawarra area. Robert is very passionate about learning and teaching my fathers Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I really enjoy coming to Shellharbour, it is a pleasure to visit and teach there. I hope to see you at FiveStar next time I am in Australia teaching Robert and his students."

simple maths

Are all nightly fees cheaper in the long run?

Some people advertise only $12 a lesson pay as you go. Sounds cheap .....hmm maybe it is not.

lets see $12x 2 night wk x 4 = $96 mth x 12 = $1152 per year.....

Or what we do is unlimited training upto 6 days/week $88 per month x 12 = $1056 per year..... cheaper and more lessons. When you add the significant cost for more lessons without the $12 a session it get extraordinarily cheaper! You will save loads enough for a family holiday.

Here is the important thing most schools that you train maybe twice a week at how long does it take to get a blackbelt? 2 years? I think not more like maybe 4 years..... so 4 x $1152 = $4608....

Training at our school usually will take most people upto 3 yrs x $1056 = $3168... save $1500 on training fees alone and get a accredited authorised blackbelt by an accredited international examiner 7th Dan
# 05069269 WTF.

Do the sums it can be way more expensive and what do you get at the end of the day?

Keeping it Real with Royce Gracie UFC Champion and Hall of Famer

Wow what a weekend!
Chilling and rolling with Prof Royce Gracie and Prof Luke Beston.
These moments validate my choice to leave Taekwondo competition behind and glad i did
after all Australia is doing terribly with athletes being beaten by unto 10 points or more and many not going past first round unless they got a bye.

Being around such a honest, funny, caring, and successful athlete that belongs to the family that changed the martial arts world forever was life changing. Prof Royce Gracie is one of the small amount of champion that are champion people as well. I have been fortunate to be around a few of these type. Thankyou Prof Royce for the time you gave my family and the intrinsic things you gave to us.

It was such an honour and the start of a wonderful journey in the Jiu Jitsu world. If you ever get the chance don't miss training with Prof Royce.

I knew straight away that the fit and friendship with Luke Beston and Angela Gracie was a good fit and the weekend validated that, so thank you guys onwards and upwards fro all of us.! Oss

Wow today it is

25 yrs...

I worked on the railways for a long time and many old guys had much more service. But it is what i fitted in to those years. Some had 30 yrs but only ever worked in one location and never extended themselves. I did a great deal more in 13 yrs.

In 25 yrs of Taekwondo  and Martial Arts i have achieved a bit;
7th Dan unbroken true service to WTF training teaching coaching mentoring
A blackbelt in Kyusho Jitsu
Blackbelt level in MMA Combat style
Olympic Selector
Australian Champion NSW and VIC too
Coach to many champions, International Medallists.
4 times to Korea
Australian Youth Olympic Festival Head of Team, Manager, Media Liaison to AOC
NSW Sports Director, Australian Chair Sport Board
NSW Coach
PostGradDipAppSc SPort Coach
Grading over 150 Blackbelts
Trained with International icons and Olympians
Taught since 1990
Blackbelt since 1987, were you born then ???
Some say i was teaching when some hobby instructors were still in nappies how funny
Too much to write about you will have to read about it in my book due out soon. Then i can add author.

It is the quality not just teaching out of a school or community hall without growth

My biggest achievement may be getting Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt one day, what an honour it would be

Safe

One of my students was attacked the other day by someone running past him. This guy hit him and then my guy reacted. As he saw the punch coming it was only a glance as it hit him, he then used taekwondo to get distance and knock the guy over, then MMA to take the guy down then Jiu jitsu exactly as I showed him to control the attacker. My student wasn't hurt and the attacker was left humiliated and worse for wear. Hopefully this guy will not try to attack someone that looks unassuming in the future. Keeping it real @ fivestar martial arts.

Success again

Training with Professors

The last time I trained with a Jiu jitsu Professor it was Professor Wally Jay 8th Dan a Hawaiian Jiu Jitsu Profesor. It was great and was some 20 years ago..... Yesterday I trained with another Professor in Sydney, infact there where several blackbelt Professors teaching and a current World Champion in the room.

Empowering to be working towards another blackbelt in a different style around people with no egos.

Can't wait for next road trip ..... Oh and a comment " your a natural" was nice, thank you

While your contemplating doing or achieving your first blackbelt, I am fortunate not to have been a quitter and achieved 3 so far in 25 years and aiming for number 4. Maybe the most rewarding
..., we will see,
keep it real

Bully camp so rewarding

Our first new bully camp with so many new kids was a great success. All the students had hours of fun and serious ground breaking learning with very little actual taekwondo. The parents were in awe of what the children learned and how fast they picked up the techniques. Kids from 4 to 14 were made safer when they go back to school.

It distressing how much bullying goes on in schools, so much we have had requests for another camp at Xmas and parents booking places already. Non violent bull proofing with verbal and physical control of the bully which is so empowering for all the child.

Watch for our program specifically for ladies... Another first in the Illawarra!

spring cleaning, it is a good value

After 25 yrs you would be amazed to see how much digital footage, photos and printed photos i had in my draws... a pile of 30cm worth of old photos.

But why do we keep them i havent looked at them for many years, therefore i dont really need them. I dont think my kids need them either.

It was so refreshing to delete or destroy the old photos. It it quite a statement both physically and emotionally to let go of the past. Oh dont worry i kept the important ones, that have real meaning, but random one overseas and at compettions gone. I have the memories that i choose to keep...

Its going to be a fantastic future for all my school and those around me, onwards and upwards. To more important things and yes "keeping it real" enough of the pretenders that once surrounded and drained me.

Smile everyone life is great!

Worlds best programs within reach ...

Besides being the most successful school in representing Australia in Illawarra and South Coast, great programs and fantastic full time venue with a caring and real environment. Not to mention real credentials with traceable gradings and quality teaching. ....

It is not always the what you say yes to that makes you better then the rest, it is who you say no to and sorry you can't be in our school. "I am sorry I think your maybe better to try abc school."

I knocked back two potential students today because i felt i didnt want to teach and they would not enhance us nor grow our students... sometimes it is not worth the trouble to teach some people.

We were great while i was coaching elite Taekwondo (yes proper sparring) now i am retired from that area, we are so much more stronger and focused on achieving everything within our centre. Blackbelt number 4 in the making and we dont let just anyone in to our programs.....

Let us enhance your life and give you the edge with our skills for life. Look at the programs coming up....
.
.
. oh they are in our school come grab a program .
